SupportDesk is an online chat system created for websites looking to offer their users internet support, enabling real-time text communication for customer queries.
Upon logging into the chat system, users are presented with a simple interface where they can enter the name they wish to use and then start a conversation by typing new messages in a box. Unlike other platforms, users do not have the option to select who they talk to; they can only send messages and read responses from the website operators.
Website operators, or "opers", can access the chat system with a password, giving them super-user privileges. Opers are able to see a list of all the users currently on the system and can choose who they want to talk to. Unattended users are marked with a special icon that makes it easy for opers to identify who they should assist next. Multiple opers are able to join a single conversation, allowing for seamless collaboration among the team.
Opers also have the power to ban users based on their IP address, helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all users. In this latest release of SupportDesk, several features have been added to improve code clarity and functionality. The Accept/Leave feature has been added to allow opers to view chats without actually joining them. The system now also supports the "ISO-8859-1" character set, with UTF-16 support coming soon. Bugs have been fixed, including the "dropped network connection when extended ASCII is entered" issue.
Overall, SupportDesk is a reliable and user-friendly internet chat system that is ideal for websites looking to provide online support to their users. Its real-time chat functionality and super-user privileges for opers make it an efficient and effective platform for website support.
