The SVG Charter software is designed to create charts and graphs effortlessly. It is a project dedicated to building a powerful tool for visualizing data in an intuitive way.
Using SVG Charter is straightforward, as you just need to run it in the directory where the charting modules live. To switch the charting module used, adjust the "require" call on line 62 of the charter.pl engine code. To generate a chart, run the code as follows: "./charter.pl [datafile in CSV format] > thechart.svg".
It's worth noting that the data file you use must be in CSV format with the first row as headings and the subsequent rows as numeric data. There's an example data.csv file included in the package.
However, it's important to keep in mind what limitations this application currently has. SVG Charter emits a fixed-aspect ratio graph and can only emit a graph with up to 4 data series. There's no technical limitation on the number of data points, but it's recommended to stick to around 100 for readability. Additionally, SVG Charter emits fixed color schemes and cannot configure the Legend location.
That said, this software is open to contributions! If you want to tackle any current limitation or any new ones you discover, you can make a code contribution.
A new feature in this release is support for a very constrained scatter graph. Overall, SVG Charter is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to create scalable and readable charts and graphs.
