TAC is a version of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) programmed entirely in Tcl, allowing users to access AIM features via Tcl commands.
The TAC client started as a small add-on program available with Tik, the Tcl/Tk client. It is worth mentioning that TAC has a limited number of features compared to its Windows and Macintosh counterparts. However, one of the significant advantages of TAC is that users can easily add features using Tcl.
The aim of TAC is to provide console access users with the ability to use AOL Instant Messenger. For those who don't have access to Windows or Macintosh clients, TAC serves as an excellent alternative.
The latest version of TAC includes several bug fixes, including a small bug fixed with the away package that allows numbers in away messages. The mobile phone package has also been added to enhance the user experience. Additionally, there is a new Away command: /awayfile or a:f sets the away message to the contents of the filename supplied as an argument. Finally, some bugs were fixed with the shell escape function.
Overall, the TAC project is an excellent alternative for users who don't have access to full-featured AIM clients. TAC's simplicity and ease of use make it an ideal software for users with only console access.
