This widget shows real-time countdown to/in days, hours, minutes, and seconds for Tax Freedom Day on the dashboard. It is applicable for the month of April and provides quick insights.
Tax Freedom Day is the day when the average American has worked long enough to earn the money needed to pay all taxes for the year. The calculations for this widget are based on government data provided by the Tax Foundation, which obtained the source data from the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). ActionAmerica.org goes further by calculating the exact time of day when Tax Freedom occurs. This allows for a countdown of not only days but also hours, minutes, and seconds.
Since the 2009 BEA data has not yet been released, this version of the widget is based on Tax Freedom Day for 2008, as indicated by the version number. The widget will be updated every year when new government data becomes available, typically in late March or early April. Users can expect new versions of the widget to be released each year around that time.
In a later release, the widget will pull the date of Tax Freedom Day from a file on the internet to eliminate the need to update the widget each spring. However, the text on the back side of the widget will also change every year. Thus, while updating the widget will not be necessary each year, it will still provide informative insights if users choose to do so.
