The Taylor UUCP project offers Unix users a comprehensive UUCP package.
One of the key features of Taylor UUCP is that it supports the f, g, G, t, and e protocols, as well as the Zmodem protocol and two new bidirectional protocols. Depending on the libraries available, the package can establish TCP or TLI connections. Furthermore, it has a configuration file mechanism that allows for customization, although this feature may not be to everyone's liking.
Other notable features include lower CPU usage, the ability to run chat scripts for specific systems and failure strings, and rapid data transfer with the new bidirectional protocol. Additionally, the package comes with uustat, which the developer believes has all the functionality of uuq, uusnap, and uumonitor.
Keep in mind that Taylor UUCP can only run on Unix, but its code is designed to be system dependent and independent, making it possible to port to other systems (although it's not a trivial task). The package does not come with uuclean, uusend, uuq, uusnap, uumonitor, uutry, uupoll, etc. but has shell script versions of some of these programs.
If you're using a binary installation, the latest release of Taylor UUCP includes bug fixes and improved configuration reporting. Support for IPv6 for TCP ports is now also available, and the package comes with a new "max-file-time" command for sys files.
