Romalizer is a Tcl-based solution designed to identify errors in your MAME roms by analyzing them, streamlining the debugging process. With a simple script, Romalizer can help users resolve MAME-related issues in a more efficient and straightforward manner.
The latest release of ROMalizer includes a number of significant improvements. The software will no longer move any of the zip files that it has fixed into your roms directory without you specifying the -M option. This allows you to run ROMalizer as a normal user on a roms filesystem that might only be writable by root or another game administrator. If you do use the -M option, however, ROMalizer will backup your old roms into the working directory as per usual. If you don't use the -M option, the new fixed roms will be located in the working directory.
In another update, ROMalizer now fully supports two new styles of merging your roms. You can use the -g or -G options to tell the software which of these new merging formats you want to use. When you choose to use the -g option, ROMalizer will merge all clones into a single zip file. If you choose to use the -G option, however, ROMalizer will create clone zip files that are capable of running independently of the parent romset. The merging features have been tested on a pacman romset and work beautifully, but further testing may be necessary on a complete romset to ensure compatibility.
ROMalizer has also added support for neogeo games. The software will ignore specific CRCs that match 354029fc (ng-sfix.rom), 9036d879 (neo-geo.rom), and 97cf998b (ng-sm1.rom). This means that neogeo ROMs are now fully supported, except for these three files, which should be placed in a file called neogeo.zip.
Finally, users should note that ROMalizer requires the usage of UnZip version 5.41 or higher due to a Y2K bug in UnZip. The software will now check your UnZip version and abort if you don't have a recent version installed, allowing you to update your software and ensure that everything is working correctly.
