TiEmu is a software emulator that can mimic the functionality of Texas Instruments' hand-held devices including TI89, TI92, TI92+, and V200.
TiEmu offers support for TI89, TI89 Titanium, TI92, TI92+ and V200PLT hand-helds, making it ideal for those who require emulation for these devices. The graphical debugger is also a significant highlight, providing users with tools such as source, memory, breakpoints, traps, vectors, stack, trace, and many others. The debugger supports run, step in, step over, step out and run to cursor functions.
Other features of TiEmu include the ability to load/save the emulator state, file linkport emulation (direct loading of files), and compatibility with 1/2/4 MB ROMs, 128 or 256 KB RAM. Users can emulate HW1, HW2, and HW3 and also run from ROM dumps or FLASH upgrades. Automatic ROM version/model detection, contrast emulated (try [Alt] + [+] & [-]), and pretty fast emulation engine are some additional functionalities of TiEmu.
Furthermore, TiEmu provides users with a screenshot of LCD and/or calculator in several image formats (JPG/PNG/ICO). Users can also use the TI keyboard directly from PC keyboard or with the mouse on the skin. The software also has archive memory support as well as ghost spaces and full emulation of HW1/2/3 protection (stealth I/O).
Despite its considerable strengths, TiEmu has a few limitations. Linkport emulation has not been tested with a USB cable yet, and there is no debugger while sending/receiving a file to/from the virtual calculator. Additionally, there are no linkport logging capabilities.
To use TiEmu, you will need the following requirements: GTK+ version 2.8.x, tilp2, libticables2, libticalcs2, libticonv, libtifiles2, and ROMs. The software release is stable and has TIGCC debugging (GDB, Insight) support. The release integrates GDB and Insight, as well as Tcl/Tk and [Incr Tcl]/[Incr Tk] built into TiEmu.
The RPMs are for Fedora Core 6 ("Zod"), and they will not install on FC5 or older. It is recommended to install them all at once. If you need to install them separately, make sure you install libticables2, libticonv, libtifiles2, and libticalcs2 first (in that order). The tilp2 RPM is optional, and it does not require a specific installation order.
In conclusion, TiEmu is a robust emulator software suitable for those who need emulation for Texas Instruments hand-held devices. It provides users with a range of features, including a fully-featured graphical debugger. Although it has some limitations, the software's functionalities outweigh its cons, making it an excellent addition to the TI emulator market.
