Tomboy-LaTeX is a plugin for Tomboy that enables users to utilize LaTeX math.
Tomboy-LaTeX requires Tomboy-0.5.9 or higher, and a LaTeX install must already be on the PATH. Additionally, convert (ImageMagick) is also needed to create the images. The file containing the C#-source code and compile scripts are provided, along with additional installation instructions in the archive.
The installation process for Tomboy-LaTeX is relatively easy. Simply run ./configure make make install (as root) and the plugin should be installed in the tomboy plugins directory. You can then install it via the tomboy interface, or by copying the Latex.dll from the plugins directory (usually /usr/lib/tomboy/Plugins) to your $HOME/.tomboy/Plugins folder.
Using the plugin is even easier. Simply type LaTeX math formulas enclosed in [...] in your notes, and they will automatically be converted to images. To edit the image, click on it or backspace over it. Please note that it may take a bit of time to get the hang of when the plugin will convert text to images and backwards, but with a bit of practice, it will come quite naturally.
One small detail to keep in mind when using Tomboy-LaTeX is that the images are only displayed when you open a note and are not saved to your notes. However, this won't affect the overall performance of the plugin.
The most recent release of Tomboy-LaTeX includes some stability bugfixes. Overall, Tomboy-LaTeX is an innovative plugin that adds tremendous value to Tomboy. It is highly recommended for anyone who needs to create complex math functions in their notes.
