The Tomboy Reminder Plugin enables users to schedule notes in Tomboy and receive reminders on a specific date. This software feature can help users stay organized and prioritize tasks effectively.
Not only does Tomboy scan notes at startup, it also re-scans notes when the user closes the note window - meaning editing existing reminders is a breeze. The date and time entry process is natural language-based, making it easy for users to quickly and accurately set reminders for birthdays, todos, and other important events.
To use the plugin, you'll need to make sure you have the following requirements: GTK+ version 2.4.x, mono-1.0 or higher, tomboy-0.3.2 or higher, and dbus-0.23.4 or higher (if tomboy is compiled with dbus support). Once you've met these requirements, simply run the given configure, make, and make install commands to install the Tomboy Reminder Plugin in the tomboy plugins directory.
Setting reminders is as easy as including a "!" followed by the desired date within a note, or using the phrases "remind date," "alert date," or "rappel date." The date format is flexible and natural language-based, and as of version 0.5, users can also include a specific time within their reminder. Tomboy will scan notes shortly after startup and when a note is closed, reminding users of the specified date and/or time in a pop-up notification.
New in this release are several improvements to the reminder functionality, including highlighting of valid dates within notes, case-insensitive month names, and the ability to use the phrase "today" as a date. This plugin is a must-have for anyone looking to streamline their note-taking and reminder-setting process within Tomboy.
