tpop3d is a UNIX-based POP3 server that boasts fast, secure and extendable features.
Moreover, tpop3d features two authenticators to allow easy implementation of new authentication schemes without writing C codes: auth-other and auth-perl. It supports TLS/SSL for encrypted communications and makes POP-before-SMTP relaying easy by providing configurable hooks. These hooks allow the user to insert rows into a database or call custom code either running in an embedded perl interpreter or in an arbitrary external program whenever a user is authenticated.
tpop3d supports BSD-format mailspool and modern maildir format of qmail. It is flexible and allows the user to select the location and type of mailspool at runtime using the configuration file. Experimental support for index caching is available to improve the performance of BSD mailspools. Adding support for new mailbox formats would be simple with tpop3d.
The software is portable to modern systems and builds successfully out of the box on various operating systems such as Linux, modern BSD systems, Solaris, and Mac OS X. It uses the GNU autoconf mechanism to configure and build tpop3d, which makes it easy to build on other Unix systems. It is available under the terms of the GNU GPL.
The latest release of tpop3d fixed the memory handling of a listening/connected sockets array. Additionally, it notifies a DRAC or WHOSON server of logins to improve overall functionality. Overall, tpop3d is a reliable and feature-packed POP3 server that is highly recommended for UNIX users.
