Trip Tracker is a client-server system that tracks the position of individuals.
The GPS client component is responsible for sending position updates to the tracking server, ensuring that you always know where your assets are. Even if the GPS client loses its internet connection, it can collect coordinates and send them to the server once it's back online.
The tracking server component stores all collected coordinates, forwarding them to map clients as needed. However, it's important to note that the map client can only show a map of Norway, as the WMS server is hardcoded in the server-side PHP script "mapservice.php". While this limitation may change in the future, users wanting to expand beyond Norwegian maps should know that it will require source code changes.
Another limitation is that GPS client version 0.8 may not set up the Java Communications library correctly, which means it may not be able to find your GPS receiver. However, the Trip Tracker team is working hard to address this issue in the next release.
Despite these limitations, Trip Tracker is still a powerful tool for tracking assets and positioning. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone looking to set up a real-time tracking environment.
