Simple DNS Plus and Simple Failover offer TSIG key value generation, a secure authentication tool for client requests of dynamic DNS updates, with easy-to-use base64 values.
TSIG, or Secret Key Transaction Authentication for DNS, is a secure way to authenticate clients requesting dynamic DNS updates. By sharing a secret key value between the client application and DNS server, every update request is signed securely using HMAC-MD5. To put it in simpler terms, the key name is equivalent to a user ID, while the key value is equivalent to a password.
The generation of key values can be performed in four ways. You may use a random 128 bit value, a random 256 bit value, a random 512 bit value, or create one from a pass-phrase (MD5-hash). You have the freedom to choose the method that suits your needs.
The TSIG Key Generator is already built into Simple DNS Plus and Simple Failover software developed by JH Software. With this review, you can make an informed decision and confidently utilize this software to generate secure TSIG key values hassle-free.
