Turing is an accessible and customizable CAPTCHA implementation designed for easy usage and extension.
During the process, a server asks a user to complete a simple test generated and graded by the computer. Since other computers cannot solve the CAPTCHA, any user entering a correct solution is deemed human. A common type of CAPTCHA requires users to type the letters of a distorted image, sometimes with obscured letters or digits.
The term "CAPTCHA" was coined in 2000 by Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, Nicholas J. Hopper, and John Langford. The trademarked acronym stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart". Unlike standard Turing tests administered by a human and targeted to a machine, a CAPTCHA is administered by a machine aimed at a human.
Currently, reCAPTCHA is the official CAPTCHA implementation recommended by the original creators. Turing is an excellent CAPTCHA option for those looking to customize or extend the process to better suit their needs.
