TV KIO slave is a software that enables you to exhibit your media collection in an organized and presentable manner on your TV screen.
The inspiration behind this software was drawn from the Wide Icon view in Xbox Media Center, which it follows closely. Essentially, this software searches for the appropriate image and displays the folder in a graphical format. Once the user selects a TV show or folder, they are then directed to the normal Konqueror file view. It is worth noting that this software is not only limited to TV shows, but can be used for any media collection that can be easily divided into categories.
To get started with TV KIO slave, first download the tarball, extract it, and cd to the directory. Use the commands ./configure make and sudo make install. KDE and QT library headers are required for a smooth installation process, which can be easily downloaded by running "sudo apt-get build-dep ipodslave". Konqueror needs to be restarted before it can recognize the new KIO, so keep that in mind during installation.
To use this software, you need to point Konqueror to "tv:/PATH_TO_MEDIA," i.e., "tv:/mnt/share/tv". Ensure that Konqueror has been restarted before performing this action. However, note that some of your TV shows may not have icons, and as a result, they will not appear like the beautiful screenshots you see. To enable an icon to appear, you must place a file titled "folder.jpg" in each subfolder. This is critical, even if the image is in PNG, TIF, or JPEG format. For instance, if you have a folder /mnt/share/tv/Family Guy, you need to place the icon at /mnt/share/tv/Family Guy/folder.jpg. You can find these icons by clicking on 'fetch icon' in the lower right corner of the button.
Overall, TV KIO slave provides a neat and impressive way of displaying your media collection in a much more enjoyable way. While it may not be perfect, it is a stable software that enables you to view your media collection easily while also customizing it to suit your style.
