A real-time dashboard widget shows the countdown to UK Tax Freedom Day by displaying months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
The front side of the widget displays the time left until or since UK Tax Freedom Day. The countdown is displayed in terms of months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. As such, users can see precisely how long it will take until they have worked to earn the money they need to pay their taxes for the year.
The back side of the UK Tax Freedom Clock widget includes detailed information about how the software works, as well as a comprehensive explanation of the concept of Tax Freedom Day. Users can also obtain links to the data sources that the software uses to calculate tax liability.
UK Tax Freedom Day is the day on which the average UK taxpayer has worked long enough to pay all of his taxes for the year. The calculations used to determine this date are based on work by the Adam Smith Institute, which obtains its data from the British Government.
Additionally, the widget provides countdowns not only for months and days, but for hours, minutes, and seconds until Tax Freedom Day arrives. One thing to note is that this version of the software is based on data from 2008 and not 2009, as the latter has not yet been released. However, users should not need to download annual updates, as the widget checks the internet for new Tax Freedom Day information each time it opens.
