The ULW project offers a user-agent log watch software that monitors and records user-agent activity. This software can be used to analyze and improve website security, track user behavior, and enhance the overall user experience.
To get started with ULW, simply follow the easy steps outlined in the 3. Installation guide. Once you have configured Apache to write logs in the desired format, running the ULW bash script will move the last custom log file to a pre-defined location and trigger a log reset by sending a SIGHUP signal to the Apache process.
The next step involves calling gawk to read the ULW config file and ULW gawk script, both of which can be found in the specified directories. The latest custom log will then be processed, and all matches defined in ulw.conf will be printed to stdout. If you want to receive the matches via email, simply invoke the ULW bash script from crontab with MAILTO variable set.
In the latest release, some minor touches have been made, and the installation directory has been changed. This version is expected to be the final release of the ULW project. Overall, ULW offers an efficient and user-friendly way to process Apache logs and extract important insights from them.
