The Universal Module Player is a versatile audio module player that supports various platforms, including Unix-like systems.
Not only does Universal Module Player work in UNIX-like platforms such as Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris, but it also uses the Custom LibModPlug audio library, which is an improved version of the well-known LibModPlug library. This library supports more than 20 formats and provides high playing quality. Additionally, the player uses LibSDL to handle multiplatform sound support.
Here are some key features that make "Universal Module Player" stand out:
- You can easily play the supported formats and seek to any order in the song. You also have pause, timer, display, and other standard features.
- During playback, you can view the pattern notes.
- You can specify noise reduction, megabass, surround, reverb sound options specifying the grade, and the delay of most options.
- You can create, save, and edit playlists to play a selection of modules.
- You can read and export to a file the song builtin message, the song instrument names, and the song sample names.
- Each user of your UNIX box can save all the sound options.
- And much more!
Universal Module Player supports various file formats on both Little Endian (Intel x86, etc.) and Big Endian (PowerPC, SPARC, MIPS, Motorola 68000, etc.) platforms, including Impulse Tracker (IT), Scream Tracker (STM), Scream Tracker 3 (S3M), Extended Modules (XM), Amiga Modules (MOD), OktaMED (MED), Oktalyzer (OKT), Unreal Modules (UMX), Composer 669 (669), DigiBooster Pro Modules (DBM), PolyTracker (PTM), and Farandole (FAR).
Moreover, certain file formats such as MultiTracker Modules (MTM), AFM, AMS, DMF, DSM, DigiTracker (MDL), MadTracker 2.0 (MT2), PSM, and ULT are only supported on Little Endian platforms (support for Big Endian is under development).
You can export or convert any of the above formats to the following file types: Impulse Tracker (IT), WAVE Audio File (WAV), Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF), and Raw Pulse Code Modulation (PCM).
The latest release includes fixes for buffer length and playlist commands, along with a hopefully fixed AIFF exporting bug. Additionally, there is a new section in the README about LibAo configuration, along with some miscellaneous rearrangements.
Overall, Universal Module Player is an exceptional audio module player that provides you with all the tools necessary to work efficiently with modules. The software is feature-packed, reliable, and an excellent addition to any audio software collection.
