Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon is a software that provides valuable insights about traffic accounting, giving users useful information regarding their traffic.
Dragon is composed of a Perl script that serves as the backend. It automatically retrieves information about user accounts from /etc/passwd, gathers data on open connections from /proc/net, and obtains critical details about running processes and which processes use network connections from /proc/. All of this information is combined, enabling you to see which user caused which traffic using which program and when it occurred.
The best part is that all of this information is collected automatically, with the only minimal configuration necessary being to inform Dragon where to find its MySQL database.
This latest release of Dragon includes several new features and bugfixes. Some of the feature highlights include cleanup on CTRL-C, adding a patch for Linux Kernel 2.6.17.7, and an updated webfrontend, which now offers the 'Total', 'User', and 'Program' tabs. In terms of bugfixes, the release addresses issues such as forgetting to close a file descriptor, using leading zeroes on port numbers in messages about connections that no longer exist, and fixing the 'wait for next minute' problem.
Overall, Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon is a highly efficient and user-friendly traffic accounter that provides valuable insights into network traffic activity.
