This Java Sudoku helper is available for free and compatible with your Mac.
One of the most convenient features of VG Sudoku is its ability to solve puzzles from your newspaper. Simply select the Set givens option, enter the numbers provided in the newspaper, and uncheck the Set givens option. You'll be ready to tackle the Sudoku puzzle with ease. And if you ever need to, you can hit Restart in the File menu to start over.
VG Sudoku can also import puzzles via reading puzzle descriptor files. One popular collection of Sudoku puzzles is Gordon Royle's "Minimum" Sudoku puzzles from The University of Western Australia. You can download the collection, save it as a text file, and then import it within VG Sudoku using the Load descriptor file... option in the File menu. From there, you can enjoy solving any of the puzzles, or share them with friends using the Go to puzzle... function in the File menu.
Another great feature of VG Sudoku is that you can customize its colors. If you're not a fan of the default colors, just select Choose colors... in the View menu and use the color chooser to set the colors you prefer. VG Sudoku will even remember your selection by saving a small configuration file in your home directory (VG-Sudoku.conf).
Overall, VG Sudoku is a solid Sudoku helper with a lot of flexibility and customization options, making it a great choice for any Sudoku enthusiast who wants to solve puzzles in a new and exciting way.
