VimLaTeX is a tool that helps sanitize output to be compatible with Vim-LaTeX's errorformat. This script wrapper works with TeX, LaTeX, and other formats.
Before you can start using vimlatex, you'll need to make sure that you have Vim installed. Once you have Vim up and running, the installation process is straightforward. Simply place the script somewhere in your PATH, like /usr/local/bin/vimlatex, and make it executable with the command chmod 0755 /usr/local/bin/vimlatex. From there, just add "vimlatex" before any tex or latex build command lines.
One of the best things about vimlatex is that it's a wrapper that processes the output while maintaining the same return code. In other words, no matter how you run the command (either with or without vimlatex), you'll get the same return code. For example, running "latex myfile.tex" and "vimlatex latex myfile.tex" will both execute the "latex" command on "myfile.tex" but the output from the second line will have error messages that should all make sense to Vim-LaTeX's error format.
Using vimlatex is incredibly easy. To get started, simply run "vimlatex %command [%arguments]" where the command line %command %arguments would texify as normal. The "vimlatex" command can simply be added before a given working command line to use the tool.
Overall, I found vimlatex to be a very useful tool for anyone working with TeX/LaTeX/etc. The most recent release includes a link to the Mercurial source code repository, but no changes to the code were made. If you haven't tried vimlatex yet, I highly recommend giving it a try soon!
