Virt Install is a command line utility that simplifies the installation of virtual machines using libvirt.
One of the great things about Virt Install is that it takes care of important setup tasks such as fetching the guest kernels, creating file-based disk images, and booting the guest operating system installer media. What's more, all you need to get started is libvirt.
If you've used Virt Install before and are curious about what's new, Version X offers a host of compelling updates you might want to check out. For one thing, the tool has improved the way it probes for OS distribution type: instead of fetching the entire file, it now simply tests for the existence of relevant files. Similarly, RFC-compliant NFS URIs are now accepted and converted as necessary.
Other helpful changes include more user friendly error messages instead of intimidating stack traces, and the ability to hide bogus libvirt error messages from the console. You can also take advantage of a new "--noreboot" flag that keeps your system from automatically rebooting at the end of installation, and tap into the libvirt capabilities XML to determine the guest types supported by a hypervisor. Finally, for those who prefer automation, a --force option can be used to prevent unwanted interactive prompting.
