This is an experimental Live CD for Linux that migrates physical machines to virtual machine guests.
The second mode is designed for more advanced users who prefer to build a customized Live CD. This can include server details that are specific to your organization to allow for greater automation during the migration process. For this mode, users will find the BUILDING A CUSTOM LIVE CD section below useful.
It's important to note that both modes utilize network transfers via an ssh connection. Therefore, sshd must be running on the virtualization host machine and must be accessible to that host. More information on this requirement is available in the SERVER REQUIREMENTS section below.
Importantly, the Virt-P2V script must only be run from the Live CD environment. It's not designed to run outside of this setup environment, and doing so could cause Bad Things to your machine. The software includes some checks to prevent users from running the software outside the Live CD environment.
Lastly, Virt-P2V does not modify the physical machine, nor does it modify its disks, configuration, etc. This makes the migration process safer and less intrusive.
