VLevel is an audio software that enhances music by compressing the quieter parts to bring them to the same level as the louder parts.
One of the key features of VLevel is its use of a look-ahead buffer to provide gradual changes in volume. Whether you're listening to music or using VLevel for sound editing and mastering, this means you can have precise control over the levels of your audio without any abrupt changes or drops.
VLevel also comes with a command line filter and a LADSPA plugin, which is compatible with XMMS. Installation is straightforward, requiring users to build the tool using the "make" command, log in as root, and type "make install". Users can also edit the Makefile to choose where the software is installed.
Although VLevel has been tested on Linux systems, it should also be compatible with similar systems. While it can compile on Windows, it will be more useful when combined with a Ruby script with a cross-platform GUI and SOX integration.
Version 0.5 of VLevel includes a redesigned LADSPA plugin that now has both mono and stereo modes. The command line version can use any number of channels, and the documentation has been updated. The software has been extensively tested, and any feedback from users is appreciated to help improve it even further.
