Volimiter is a background application that can limit the sound volume on a system. This free and open source software operates in the background, making it easy to manage audio levels with minimal effort. Additionally, it operates without a graphical interface, making it highly efficient.
Using Volimiter is easy. You only need to supply one argument, the desired fraction of maximum output volume, for example, volimiter 0.25. When you do this, the software limits the volume of the default output device to 0.25 of the maximum value. If you run Volimiter without an argument, it uses the current output volume as the limit.
To stop the sound-limiting function of Volimiter, kill the software using the command killall Volimiter.
It is worth mentioning that Volimiter is distributed as arsware under the GNU General Public License terms. If you find this software helpful, it would be nice to say thank you to the members of ArsTechnica forums.
