Vttest is a software tool designed to test or showcase the lack of compatibility of VT100-compatible terminals. It is used to evaluate their compatibility with different programs to ensure smooth performance.
In addition to the original version, vttest also offers additional tests for analysis of vt220, vt420 terminals, as well as variants of xterm (past version 1.7). It's worth noting that this program isn't designed to support all the different variations of VT100, like VT125, VT131, nor the new VT200 series. However, you're free to add support for these variations yourself.
New in the latest update to this software is an improvement in the tests for rectangle fill/copy/erase, which now utilize line drawing and color to better demonstrate how those attributes are maintained by the terminal emulator. If you're looking to hack around and test compatibility, vttest is well worth a try.
