Vzpkg is a set of management tools for OpenVZ templates.
Each VPS performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server, complete with its own root access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files. For more information, check out the helpful Documentation - Technology resource. The OpenVZ project is also an open-source community project supported by SWsoft. It is designed to provide access to the code and ultimately empower the open-source community to test, develop, and further the OS virtualization effort. It's also a proving ground for new technology that might evolve further into the Virtuozzo product range. The community is encouraged to access, use, develop, and comment on the software and references available on the site.
What's new in this release? There's support for different (per OSTEMPLATE) rpm versions (OpenVZ bug #27), as well as support/requirement for customized yum via vzyum. Rpm/yum now executes scripts in VPS context, and mounting of /proc is done in VPS context (by our init). There's support for template sets (OpenVZ bug #15) and per-ostemplate .rpmmacros (OpenVZ bug #16), too. OpenVZ bug #28 is fixed (vzyum should exit if there's no relevant yum.conf) and there's a statically built myinit available for different platforms. The release also includes the vzosname utility and has a requirement for procmail (needed for lockfile util). Finally, OpenVZ bug #63 is fixed (template cache should not be created if install-post fails). With all these great updates in place, vzpkg is an excellent choice for anyone looking to simplify their OpenVZ template management and streamline their software installations.
