WallpaperZapper changes backgrounds in the GNOME desktop environment.
One of the best things about WallpaperZapper is that it is highly configurable. You can choose the time between two wallpaper changes and even configure the settings through the preferences saved in GConf. There is a popup menu that provides a list of available wallpapers, and selecting an item from the menu changes the current wallpaper. Notably, any changes made to the GNOME backgrounds list reflect immediately in the application.
WallpaperZapper is available in English and French and could be easily translated into other languages using traditional tools like gettext and po files. The application is written in Python and uses GTK/GNOME through PyGTK. Gamin was used to monitor the background file in earlier versions, but now it uses GNOMEvfs.
The latest version of WallpaperZapper has made some significant improvements. The wallpaper popup menu now displays background together with a thumbnail, and the wallpaper list is sorted based on wallpaper name. The about dialog now inherits from gtk.AboutDialog, making it similar to GTK. Additionally, code cleanups have been done to fix typos, remove comments, and modify configuration parameters.
Overall, WallpaperZapper is an ideal wallpaper selector for Linux users who want to add some variety to their desktop backgrounds. With its numerous configurable settings, multilingual support, and compatibility with GNOME interfaces, this application is a must-try for anyone who wants to personalize their Linux desktop.
