wapircgw simplifies the process of connecting to IRC networks using your mobile phone's WAP browser. It enables easy network access and navigation.
Wapircgw is made up of two parts that work together: wapircphp and wapircd. Wapircd is a daemon that handles connections and requests from the mobile phone, while wapircphp generates WML web pages for mobile phone viewing. To use wapircgw, a web-server application with PHP and MySQL support, such as Apache, is required. MySQL support is needed for user administration and settings storage.
When a user logs in with their mobile phone, wapircphp communicates with wapircd to establish a new IRC connection. Wapircd then connects to the IRC server and joins the channels specified in the user’s settings. When a user logs out or is inactive, wapircd will automatically close the connection with the IRC server.
To install wapircgw, edit the wapircd password in wapircd/src/config.h, run ./configure, and then make. It is secure to run this program as a single user, and the wapircd binary can be found in the src directory after running make. If desired, the binary can also be installed in /usr/local/bin by running make install as root.
After starting wapircd, copy the contents of the wapircphp directory to your website and add the specified table to your MySQL database. This latest release fixed an issue with host resolving under Solaris. For further options, users can run wapircd -h.
Overall, wapircgw is a useful tool for IRC communication on mobile devices. Its ease of use and ability to handle multiple channels make it a great option for IRC users on the go.
