WebIndex is software that creates HTML pages from web-links, making browsing easy. It is primarily used in schools and colleges, and does not require HTML knowledge from the user.
One of the best things about WebIndex is that system administrators can turn off advanced features like formatting and file paths, so that end users only see the tools they need to maintain the index. This makes it easier for those without technical expertise to use the software effectively.
With WebIndex, you can index up to 237699 web sites, with up to 49 main categories and 49 sub-categories per category. Each sub-category can have up to 99 web sites. And don't worry about sorting – automatic alphabetical sorting is provided for each set of entries, with the ability to manually move entries up and down as necessary.
If you want to make things even easier on the eyes, you can import picture files for web-links and display them at a fixed size or at the original size above each link. And when you're ready to print, you have plenty of options – you can print everything from a single web site entry to a whole Table-of-Contents entry, or you can print out the entire index to create a hard copy catalogue.
WebIndex also comes with advanced features like the ability to import header and footer HTML files into the catalogue on the first or all pages, as well as the option to import Cascading Style Sheets to format the appearance of the index. An integrated style sheet editor is also provided.
And if you need to collaborate with others, WebIndex comes with a site license that allows multiple users to add entries. However, only one user can edit the catalogue at a time to prevent data loss from the index becoming out of sequence – if someone else has the file open, you'll be asked to try again later.
