WebME is a straightforward CMS that provides blog and podcasting features.
The installation process is relatively simple. You can untar a wishme tarball to any directory on your server or desktop, and then use your favorite text editor to open the config.py file. Here, you can modify the database and Timezone configurations as per your preference.
Next, you need to open the templates/config.cfg file and edit the first string (starting with #set c_abspath). Please note that the URL in this line shouldn't contain a leading slash. After making relevant changes, you must initiate the database by executing mysql -u username -p database < init.sql from the docs/ directory.
In the final step, go to the libs/ directory and execute the download.sh script. This script will download web.py and other essential libraries. Once done, you can run the wm.py script and open your browser at localhost:8080. If you wish to change the port for WebME, you can set it as a parameter.
Once you log in to WebME with your username 'admin' and password 'webmein,' you'll be in the administration mode. You can now make changes such as creating new semi-static pages. In the latest release, there are small security fixes, and only the administrator can create new semi-static pages. Updating to this version is highly recommended.
In conclusion, WebME is an uncomplicated CMS that is ideal for users with little technical prowess. Its blog and podcasting support, coupled with its simple installation process, make it an easy-to-use platform for content management.
