Wefis is a file management software that streamlines the organization of files on web-servers for optimal efficiency.
Unlike most other web-file-systems, Wefis is based on AJAX technology. AJAX, or the special Javascript technique, fetches the minimum amount of data from the server without requiring the entire page to reload. This technology, like that used by GMAIL, results in faster operations for end-users. Information is transferred much more quickly, even if the server is slow.
From the administration standpoint, Wefis relies on PRASI, a flexible user management system developed by the same team. PRASI enables site-wide authentication with only one password thanks to a simplistic API that can be integrated into any Perl module. PRASI works well for small to medium systems, but it can be used for larger ones with some modification. Setting up users is easy, but modifying services may take a little longer.
Wefis is a dream come true, written entirely in Perl and designed for Unix/Linux systems. Although porting it to Windows shouldn't be difficult, this has not yet been accomplished. Nonetheless, version 1.0.1, the latest version publicly released, has undergone extensive hard work and beta testing internally on the developers' servers. Most of the bugs have been ironed out, with only a few exceptions that can be found in the bug tracker.
Overall, these known issues won't affect your experience, except under very specific and unlikely circumstances. Wefis supports mainly IE and Firefox and Netscape to be confirmed, but other Mozilla-compliant browsers should work fine too.
