WideMP3 is an easy-to-use MP3 encoder software that can be distributed across multiple devices for faster processing.
Installing the software is a breeze. Simply extract the source distribution, compile and install as follows: ./configure make su make install. WideMP3 is currently supported on different platforms such as Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 on Intel x86 and Alpha; Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 on Intel x86; and OpenBSD 2.7 on Intel x86. The software is also expected to work on FreeBSD, though tests for this platform haven't been done yet.
Feedback from users on different platforms, both positive and negative, is welcome. Any patch that will help the software work better on a particular platform should be submitted in context diff format (diff -c) or unified diff format (diff -u). Such patches must be released under the GNU General Public License.
As of the moment, the only MP3 encoder supported by WideMP3 is Bladeenc 0.9x. Users who can provide feedback on other encoders are welcome to do so. Any patch that will allow WideMP3 to work with other encoders is appreciated.
