XArchon is an emulation of the iconic ARCHON game.
In the latest release, a few updates have been introduced to improve the game experience. Rocks don't slow down weapons anymore and the rock icons have been changed. The rocks now change shape slightly, and passable rocks are broken into pieces. This feature is a bit of a hack because all rocks have the same bitmask for collision tests. Additionally, animated power points now flicker more subtly, and archon_theme.c has been removed (Rob's compiled-in xpms).
A major change has been made to the field AI. The reaction time at low difficulty levels has been slowed down using Ronen's algorithm. Creatures always move relative to some target, which can be either the enemy or its weapon. Movement is calculated on two axes: chase/flee and dodge/shoot. All directions are scored based on how they compare with the axes, and the highest-scoring unblocked movement is chosen. If a creature collides with a rock, it will be 'pushed' away from the rock's center instead of simply appearing on an adjacent cell.
