Xiron is a framework for quickly creating multimedia frontends using the Xine engine.
The combination of the Xiron API and the advanced features of the Ruby language makes it an excellent development framework that simplifies the creation of new and cutting-edge media players. In addition to its main features, Xiron also includes some well-crafted utility classes that are not directly related to xine but are still incredibly useful for frontends. These include a class to handle mediamarks and playlists of various formats, as well as an OSD widget set to easily write OSD-based front-ends such as Oxine.
Another noteworthy sub-project available in Xiron is Grill, a testing framework for xine written in Ruby. The goal of this project is to test every aspect of xine-lib and make the testing process as easy as possible. The Grill package comes bundled with Xiron and requires no installation, making it incredibly easy to use.
In terms of recent updates, this is the first release of the completely rewritten Xiron, which is meant to be a pre-release towards 0.2.0. The intended audience for this release are developers, testers, and package maintainers who are encouraged to test this release and send bugfixes for 0.2.0. The new release boasts several updates and improvements that make Xiron even more efficient and streamlined for multimedia frontend development.
