XMMS-Timidity is a MIDI plugin compatible with XMMS media player, designed to enhance playback capabilities by providing an improved MIDI sound rendering experience.
One thing to note is that the xmms-timidity plugin requires two things: XMMS and libTiMidity. Once you have these installed, you can easily configure the plugin for your system. The installation process is simple and straightforward, and can be done in just a few steps.
To install the plugin, simply `cd` to the directory containing the package's source code and type `./configure`. Note that if you're using `csh' on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure' instead to prevent `csh' from trying to execute `configure' itself.
Running `configure` takes some time, but during the process the messages displayed make it easy to follow along and see which features are being checked for. Once `configure` has finished running, you can type `make` to compile the package. Optionally, you can also type `make check` to run any self-tests that come with the package.
To install the programs and any data files and documentation, type `make install`. If you want to clean up the source code directory, you can remove the program binaries and object files by typing `make clean`. To remove the files that `configure' created, so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer, type `make distclean'. The `make maintainer-clean' target is intended mainly for the package's developers, but can also be used if necessary.
Overall, I found the xmms-timidity plugin to be a great addition to my XMMS setup, and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy-to-use MIDI plugin.
