Kye is a free software version of a classic game that can be played on different devices. It offers the same gameplay and challenges, and is a good option for those looking for a nostalgic game experience.
While Xye is currently in beta state, it has successfully reproduced Kye's gameplay mechanics while making some necessary modifications to improve the overall game experience. Although some gameplay factors are different, the main objective is to preserve the feeling of the original game.
In addition, Xye can open and play .kye level files, but Kye2Xye is available to convert a .kye level file into .xye format and take advantage of the new features. With these changes come significant differences in gameplay, including a new rule that disallows diagonal movement.
The mouse control is also noticeably different and does not stop the game clock unlike Kye. Pressing keys to boost the clock speed also does not affect gameplay significantly. However, Ctrl can be used as a fast forward button when you need the game to speed up.
Black holes in Xye, unlike in Kye, always show their animation and enter the busy mode, making them less random and more predictable. Additionally, pushing round blocks towards other rounded objects or walls causes a similar behavior to that of rockies, making some of the Kye levels easier to solve. This change was made for practical and logical purposes, especially for block-based puzzles, which became valid thanks to Xye's additions. Keep in mind that rockies will not allow this to happen if they are pushed towards a non-active direction.
Overall, Xye is a fantastic software that adds new life to the classic game of Kye. Although some modifications have been made, Xye still provides an exceptional Kye-like experience while adding new features to enhance gameplay. With the added bonus of being able to create and edit levels, Xye is truly worth checking out.
