ZWeatherApplet is a Zope Product modelled on the Gnome Weather Applet, designed to provide quick access to weather information.
By default, ZWeatherApplet only displays a subset of the weather information. However, users can access more methods to display exactly what they want by reading the source or the online help provided. It is important to note that two different Zope products named ZWeather exist, one by Andrew Kenneth Milton and the other being this ZWeatherApplet. To avoid confusion, this program was renamed.
Installing ZWeatherApplet involves downloading and installing the PyMetar Python module, and then downloading and installing the ZWeatherApplet product. Installation instructions may be somewhat different on other systems. Once installed, users can add some ZWeatherApplet instances with the correct location codes, as seen in the file Locations, or by using the drop down list provided.
Users can display the weather information with the default rendering or they can display it in the way they prefer. This can be done by calling individual methods such as temperature, wind speed, and precipitation. However, users must call refresh in this case to ensure data is up-to-date. The refresh method takes care of caching and cache expiration by default with a time limit of 15 minutes. Caching is done per instance, so displaying many instances at once can cause a speed loss, and it is recommended to create them at separate times to prevent this issue.
