Arbeat is a useful console application enabling you to add BPM tags to MP3 files. It offers a simple and efficient solution for organizing and arranging music files.
Version 0.2
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English

Developed by Aaron VonderHaar
Arbeat is a console tool that allows users to add BPM tags to their mp3 files. This application is designed in a way that it makes the process quite simple and efficient. If mpg321 is installed, users can play the song in the background while they tap the keyboard to determine the tempo.

The ID3v2 mp3 tag standard has defined the "TBPM" tag, which helps the music files to be tagged with the music's tempo (beats per minute). This facilitates software to filter and sort the music by tempo, allowing users to identify their music with ease. However, existing tools do not provide the capacity to determine tempos and record tempo tags for a large number of audio files.

Arbeat introduces features such as the ability to save the tempo information, which makes it stand out from other programs that determine tempo. The tempo tagging can be done without any complications through the system of allowing users to specify or tap out the tempo. Moreover, Arbeat is not bound to a specific music manager or playlist application, and it runs without requiring a specific graphical environment.

Some key features of Arbeat are that the application provides users with a lightweight tool that makes it easy to play back, determine the tempo of, and record the tempo tag for an audio file. Arbeat also assists in tagging audio files with tempo tags given an existing database or file that contains tempo information for those files. This helps in processing a large number of audio files in the manner stated above.

The new release of Arbeat introduces moodbar support. The data is scaled to 200 samples to total 600 bytes. For ID3v2 tags, the data is stored in a GEOB frame with the description 'moodbar' and mime type 'image/x-moodbar-rgb'. For vorbis tags, the data is stored base64 encoded as the value of 'MOODBAR'.

GNU autotools are now used with this newest version of Arbeat. Taglib is now used instead of id3lib, which allows support for 2.4 tags. Additionally, all tags are rewritten as 2.4. The new release of Arbeat also supports Ogg Vorbis files.

Arbeat also brings some new options and flexibility to the table: the application now supports --no-bpm and --no-moodbar options. Additionally, it added --silent to suppress audio playback, and --force to overwrite existing tags. Users can now rely on error checking, which helps in sorting out any unexpected problems.

In conclusion, Arbeat is an excellent option for people who want to process a large number of audio files while saving tempo information. With its ease of use, it offers great convenience to its users.
