Developed by Bodington Team
Bodington is a Virtual Learning Environment/Learning Management System that is entirely free of cost and open source. It is being used across Universities and Colleges worldwide as it offers controlled access through open standards. The Bodington project offers an open source environment that supports learning, teaching, and research in complex, multi-disciplinary, and large organizations. It is also suitable for inter-institutional collaborations.

Bodington supports teaching and learning across the entire range of learning institutions worldwide. Installations at Universities such as Leeds, Oxford, Manchester, UHI Millennium Institute, Eton College, Yorkshire Coast College, and St Andrews College Singapore are some of the current ones.

Bodington allows users to upload lecture notes, have discussion fora, manage external links, and create interactive resources, such as customised logbooks, peer-reviewed reflective diaries, online surveys, short-answer papers, and multiple choice tests. Students can also port their work into secure pigeon-holes for marking.

The software offers users several advantages, such as easy and quick material sharing on the web, controlling access to material, brand and customize for local look and feel. It also allows for running server services on various platforms, such as Microsoft, Linux, UNIX, or Mac OS X. The software supports reliable and scalable service for end-users and can run services for tens of thousands of registered users.

Users can also access Bodington on any platform that supports standard browsers. The software is built specifically for Further and Higher Education, and users have significant influence on future functionality. Moreover, partners can integrate access with built-in Shibboleth functionality, and the software can comply with the JISC e-learning framework.

Users can customize the source code to suit their local needs, and free up more funds to support staff development, customisation and help desk, among others.

Compared to other software, Bodington allows users to avoid being tied down to a fixed pedagogy, lower costs because of no annual license fee and paying for upgrades and support services, among others.
