The circular-application-menu is an exciting new prototype that mirrors the current structure of the application menu for the GNOME desktop. Originally created as a paper prototype in March 2007, this revolutionary software was finally coded over Christmas 2007. While it's currently just a command line application, there are plans to wrap it up into its own panel applet and complete its development.

One thing to note is that, apart from requiring a code refactor, there are no automake niceties, so all you need to do is "make" and go! Additionally, it's essential to have a composited environment (such as compiz, etc.) with gtk+ 2.12 to use this application.

To currently add the circular-application-menu to a panel, follow the subsequent steps: right-click on any vacant panel space, and select 'Add to Panel' from the displayed context menu. Once the 'Add to Panel' dialog box appears, enter the following details: name: 'Circular Applications Menu,' generic name: 'Circular Application Menu,' comment: 'A Circular Application Menu Representation,' command: 'circular-application-menu,' type: 'Application,' icon: , and finally, choose the 'Run In Terminal' option so that the command doesn't create a window in which to run.

Once this is done, when you click on a menu segment, it disappears, and its child menu tab is displayed. You can also use Page-Up, Page-Down, Home, and End keys to navigate. In the latest release, circular-application-menu now requires GTK+ version 2.12.x and a composited environment (such as compiz, etc.).
