This software can recover text from corrupted MS Office 97-2010 files and Open Office files, and formatting from Open Office files only. It features an 'Alternatives' menu and zip repair pre-treatment for zip based files.

Unfortunately, the text extraction feature only recovers basic formatting for Microsoft Office files. Nonetheless, the application can still be used as a viewer and text editor for healthy MS Office and Open Office files, even in the absence of a full installation of MS Office.
In addition to its core functionalities, Corrupt Office File Salvager has an extensive 'Alternatives' menu that provides users with other free and commercial options for recovering their office files. A free coupon (S2SERVICES) is also included, providing access to the usually paid-for Recoveronix File Repair service, which is often effective.
The text extraction process relies on SILVERCODERS DocToText, a command-line tool. The program also uses command-line tools from the CMD Corrupt OfficeOpen2txt, The Chicago, and the Apache Tika Projects in order to reconstruct Open Office files by unzipping them with the 7zip unzipper, which is somewhat immune to zip corruption.
For those cases in which the software is unable to recover text, it provides users with references to alternative methods for recovering their files. For example, the program suggests the use of other tools for Open Office, Microsoft Word, and Excel files. It is worth noting that this application was previously known as CorruptOffice2Text.
Version 1.0.3:
* Changed the date of the S2SERVICES Recoveronix' Service coupon expiration from Nov 1, 2013 to Nov 1, 2014.
* Signing the file seems to ruin it, so I didn't do it for this version.
* Changed URL's of my software to point to the Sourceforge location.
* Changed the icons to simpler ones.
