The module is a direct translation of Steffen Beyer's exceptional Date::Calc module to Perl. It has been designed to handle year numbers ranging from 1 to the largest positive integer your system can represent (which is at least 32767). Moreover, the module ensures correct handling of year numbers starting from 2000 ("Year 2000" or "Y2K" compliance).
It is worth noting that this module extrapolates the Gregorian calendar back until the year 1 A.D., even though the Gregorian calendar was only adopted in 1582 by most European countries (not all). Some countries continued using the Julian calendar until the early 20th century.
While Date::Pcalc is not intended to automatically do everything you could ever imagine, it is a highly versatile toolbox in the best UNIX spirit and tradition that will get you where you want to go.
