EditPad runs on popular Linux versions - SuSE 7.x/8.x, Mandrake 7.x/8.x/9.x, Red Hat 8. It's a versatile text editor that supports different file encodings, has powerful search/replace abilities and facilitates easy handling of large files.
The application comes in two versions, EditPad Lite and EditPad Pro, which are being developed using Borland Kylix 3. The software depends on a special version of the QT library, namely libborqt-6.9-qt2.3.so. Fortunately, this library is included with the full downloads of EditPad.
In this release, there have been some significant improvements made, including the addition of block and rectangular selections. If a selection already exists, users can toggle between linear and rectangular instead of clearing it. URLs that don't indicate the protocol but begin with "www" or "ftp" are now also highlighted.
Some bugs have also been fixed in this version. The spinner controls on the Editor tab are now correctly positioned in the Configure File Types, and dragging tabs no longer causes an access violation. When opening a file from FTP or uploading a file with a + or % in its name, and editing it, clicking the Save button will now upload the file with the correct name. If EditPad was started at boot time, and the tray icon option was enabled, the Favorites and Macros would disappear after a reboot. Finally, playing back a macro that did text conversion caused EditPad to crash.
Overall, EditPad is a great software with a variety of useful features for Linux users. The application is compatible with several Linux distributions, and both KDE and GNOME desktops are supported. Bugs have been fixed and significant improvements made, making this version even more useful.
