Developed by Kevin Daughtridge
gElemental is an outstanding software that provides detailed information on the chemical elements. It is a viewer of the periodic table that is compatible with the GTK+ toolkit and can be used on Linux and other GTK+ platforms. Since it is released under the GNU General Public License, it is entirely free for anyone to download and use. Currently, gElemental is maintained and developed by Kevin Daughtridge. The software is derived from GPeriodic, which was originally developed by Kyle R. Burton and further developed by Jonas Frantz.

One of the unique features of gElemental is its table view, which allows the elements to be coloured thematically. Moreover, colouring by chemical series and by phase is currently supported. The list view displays essential information about the elements, and it can be sorted by name, number, symbol, and other options. The element properties dialog is another prominent feature of the software. It displays various kinds of information, including historical, thermodynamic, electrochemical, and crystallographic properties. A comprehensive list of properties is also available. gElemental is available in several languages, and users can check the translation status page for further details.

In addition to sophisticated features, gElemental comes with a range of improvements over the GPeriodic. The software has an improved interface with better theme compatibility. The data set is updated and corrected, and thanks to libgelemental, the element and table data are in separate data libraries. The C++ code base of gElemental comes with the appropriate typing of element information.

To use gElemental, ensure you meet the requirements, including the GTK+ version 2.6.x, glibmm 2.6.0 or greater, gtkmm 2.6.0, and optionally Doxygen to build the API documentation. The latest release is licensed under the GPLv3 and comes with new features such as improved colouring by properties, several library improvements, and various interface issues have been resolved.

Overall, gElemental is an exciting software that provides detailed information about the chemical elements. Thanks to its features, it is an excellent tool for educational and research purposes.
