gLife project is an artificial life simulator that aims to mimic an artificial society. The software combines the principles of artificial life and cellular automata, which are subsets of artificial intelligence. However, it has a slight bias towards creating an artificial society. The program uses a limited set of rules to make a society emerge.
To run gLife, the following requirements are needed: GNOME Libraries and Libglade. The latest version comes with a set of bug fixes and improvements. The bug fixes include making the FAQ and BUGS file included in the RPMs and the 'Enforce Reproduction' toggle not being set appropriately when the 'preferences' box is selected. Additionally, the 'Pause' button is now insensitive at startup.
The improvements to gLife include the translation of the software into Russian, 'Speed' is now a factor during movement (i.e. some animals can move multiple times during a turn). There have also been speed enhancements thanks to some gprof lovin'. Finally, the documentation has been updated and re-licensed to use the FDL, as that is what the Gnome Documentation Project (GDP) uses. Overall, gLife is an interesting simulator for creating artificial societies.
