Microsoft Messenger can now be accessed via IRC through this gateway software.
I recently had the opportunity to try out the IRC gateway for Microsoft Messenger and wanted to share my thoughts on this innovative software. First and foremost, this program, written by Johannes Verelst and licensed through the GPL license, is in its pre-alpha stage of development.
While it may not be perfect yet, the concept behind this program is truly impressive. The idea for this software came about when the developer was frustrated with having to juggle multiple programs for both IRC and MSN. There didn't seem to be any MSN clients that could also handle IRC, so Verelst decided to develop an IRC client that could do MSN instead.
The result is the IRC gateway for Microsoft Messenger - a program that allows for easy connectivity to MSN via an IRC server written in Perl. If you're running into issues when running the program, however, it is worth noting that this is still a work in progress and is being heavily developed.
