JAG is a 2D arcade and puzzle game that can be played on Linux and Windows operating systems. Thanks to being free and open source, this unique game manages to provide an enjoyable experience for players without any financial restrictions.

To play JAG, your objective is simple: break all the target pieces on each level before the time runs out. The challenge lies in keeping up with the fast-moving gameplay, which involves moving game pieces using the mouse into matches of 3 or more in a straight line horizontally or vertically. Doing this on top of the target cells is what breaks them, and the faster you take them out, the more points you will earn.

There are also single and double targets, and unlike the single ones, double targets require two turns to remove. Other pieces, such as blocks, are also in your way and need to be destroyed before you can move forward. By breaking pieces and targets, you earn a score that can be spent on applying special tools.

These tools make life easier as they are mostly intended for breaking several pieces at a time, including blocks and targets. Additionally, by breaking pieces of the same type, you increase the bonus counters. Collecting 500 or more items allows you to remove all the same items from the field.

In terms of scoring, you get one point for an ordinary cell and three points for a target cell. The actual points you get are multiplied by the bonus value, so it can be much higher. The score bonus is the multiplier that is applied to every score point you get during the game. The bonus raises when you remove the target cells quickly enough to keep the bonus timer running.

Furthermore, every level may contain up to 6 game items, which can be eliminated by obtaining a reward. You can choose the power of the elimination depending on how many items you have collected.

Tools are the special rewards that you take for scoring and collecting game items. There are ten tools available in the game, two in the puzzle mode, including the Hammer, Clock, Nippers, Star, Super Star, Bomb, Mixer, Bolt, Row Blaster and Twin Blaster.

Unlike tools, permanent bonuses, once received, are active for all the further levels. These include the Score-Time Bonus, Score-Magnification Bonus, Score Bonus, and Clock Bonus.

There are two play modes in the game - arcade and puzzle. The difference is that in arcade mode, you can get new bonuses for collected items and use all the tools, whereas, in puzzle mode, you have only two tools at your disposal (Hammer and Clock).
