KDar is a KDE-based software that allows easy backup and archiving with its graphical user interface (GUI).
One of KDar's significant benefits is its ability to perform differential backups, in which it quickly stores the differences between a recent full backup and the current state of a user's data. Additionally, its sophisticated file filtering mechanism allows for selection of which files and directories to backup or restore, as well as which files to compress.
Another standout feature of KDar is its ability to extract a small catalog from an archive. This means that a user doesn't have to keep their archive CD's to do a differential backup of the entire filesystem, but only needs to store the much smaller catalog file on their filesystem.
KDar uses the Disk ARchive library, libdar, enabling it to possess all of the capabilities of DAR, although not all features are currently implemented. Some of the software's other key features include filters, slices, selective compression, archive testing, configuration storage, and restoration of individual files.
In this release of KDar, the bugs regarding the command export-A option have been fixed, and there has been an update in spelling fixes for the Swedish translation.
Overall, KDar is a flexible and powerful disk-based archiving and backup utility that possesses numerous useful features. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an efficient tool to back up important data onto a variety of disk-based media.
