LaserTraq is a software suite that enables the use of a laser pointer as a mouse with any X11 application.
LaserTraq is a software suite designed to enable the use of a laser pointer as a mouse for X11-Applications. To utilize this software, you will need a video-capture device that is supported by gstreamer. With multiple sensors defined per video-source or multiple sources, users get to experience multiple input options (such as two red lasers on different surfaces, red/green lasers on the same surface, etc.). The suite allows you to define the Pixel-Height/Width of your target, which automatically scales the laser-pointer coordinates.
The output options include transferring the coordinates over the network to other machines via TCP/IP, a simple formatted printout of coordinates to stdout, simulating predefined key presses when the laser is detected, and warping the X-Mouse.
To use LaserTraq, you need to film the target surface adequately with a camera that has manual exposure settings while keeping the background as dark as possible. Once this is done, the software scans the image for the laser pointer's color and calculates the X and Y coordinates.
LaserTraq requirements include a video-capture device that is supported by Gstreamer, a video-beamer, Gnome-libs, GStreamer support for your video capture device e.g., v4lsrc, and SDL (for TraqDemo).
To install this software, users are advised to CD in each program's subdirectory and type ./configure make make install.
The latest LaserTraq release comes with several upgrades such as improved build scripts, reduced GUI CPU usage, an upgraded glade file, better delay options, and bug fixes making it even more functional.
