MAME OS X

MAME OS X is a top-performing emulator now available for native OS X. Its power lies in its ability to leverage the latest OS X technologies- including Core Video and Core Image- to create an immersive gaming experience for its users. It's important to note that MAME OS X does not come with game software. In order to play, you must source game software called ROMs. ROMs are essentially images from ROM chips of the original machine. As most ROMs are still owned by their respective manufacturers, only use ROMs that you have purchased hardware for.

MAME OS X automatically searches for ROMs in ${HOME}/Application Support/MAME OS X/ROMs. Upon procuring ROMs, you're able to start up the game simply by typing in the game name in the dialog box. Please note that most game names are shortened to 8 characters or less. To access a list of game names, simply run the ROM Audit tool from the "Tools > ROM Audit" menu. This tool can be incredibly helpful for organizing game selection and better streamline your gaming experience on MAME OS X.
